They have too much clerical help and just One Vet . I waited with my cat 50 minutes in exam room. The other staff did not come in to say how much longer or any update. I did get a message Day before that Dr. ---- would be be replacing Dr.-----; they could have scheduled less Appts. Or spread them out to serve customers Efficiently.
The Avenues Pet Hospital staff are so professional, kind, and compassionate. They found my lost cockatiel and kept him for me. They let me borrow a carrier to take him home. Everyone should take their pets to this pet hospital because they provide excellent service and they are passionate about what they do!
We had the best vet experience we've ever had at Avenue Pet Hospital. 5 stars for the admin team & Dr. Richard Schwach. We had a terrible experience at a competing orthopedic vet in the area. This was the total opposite experience. Dr. Schwach was incredibly personal and thoughtful. He went out of his way to educate us on the surgery and what to expect. He got our dog in and out of X-rays in under one hour. The cost of the X-rays were $800 cheaper for the exact same service as the other place. It might not be as fancy and nice as some of the other clinics but the care, bedside manner, and pricing are worlds apart. UPDATE: Dr. Schwach performed a successful TPLO surgery on our dog. Surgery day went as planned. The front office followed up with us the next day to see how our pup was doing. He's recovering nicely. Once again - 10/10 recommend!
Avenues Pet Hospital was a huge disappointment. While we had some positive experiences with the vet themselves, we almost never had direct communication unless we paid for a full in-person appointment. Otherwise, everything was filtered through the vet techs or front desk, which led to constant miscommunication and conflicting information. When it came time for our puppy’s spay, things went from frustrating to unacceptable. After a minor incident, an emergency vet examined her and cleared her for surgery within 24 hours. Avenues Pet Hospital dismissed this, insisted we wait two weeks for liability reasons, and never once asked to examine her themselves. Instead, we were left to rely on the vet techs. One tech, Jessica, even told us our puppy’s tongue might "fall off" and her mouth tissue could "decay", which were extreme, fear-mongering claims made without ever seeing her. This was not only unprofessional, but it also created unnecessary stress at an already difficult time. It became clear this clinic prioritizes protecting itself over providing thoughtful, compassionate care. We switched to a new vet immediately, and the difference has been night and day.
I can’t give this team enough stars! From reception, billing and of course Dr. Schwach. You are all amazing! 4 TPLO surgeries, various eye and allergy visits and most recently the passing of our beloved Sissy, during this hard time they all represented themselves like family. Thank you
We have brought our French bulldog here for five years- he was even born here! The staff are great here. They treat us with compassion and care. They don't overcharge. They're always in communication. They're straight forward. In a tough job, they do an amazing job! We love their team 🙂
Hands down the best vet! If you have a Bulldog of any kind, this is the place. Caring, professional and efficient. They don’t push unnecessary procedures or medications. We’ve lived all of the Bay Area from San Mateo to Richmond and we still come to Avenues. Anytime we didn’t go to Avenues we regretted it.
