Veterinary Emergency & Specialty of Tidewater

We had to bring our sweet little girl Smokey in for a medical emergency. Unfortunately we had to make the hardest decision to let her go. Everyone at VEST was so nice and respectful and showed so much love and compassion to both our little girl and to our family. Thank you for that! This is a wonderful office. The staff is very knowledgeable and straightforward. No one wants to be in this kind of situation but that is sometimes reality and they do such a great job with the pets and the humans! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

Phenomenal practice. They were able to see me immediately when my dog ate a 10 inch "meat diaper" out of a package of chicken thighs. The staff was attentive, patient with my reactive dog, and overall just a joy to work with considering the seriousness of the situation. I would recommend this practice to anyone and everyone in the Ches/Norf/VB area for emergency veterinary services. Thank you again to the amazing doctor, technicians, and staff that helped to save my boy.

Taking your pet to the emergency vet is never a "good" experience. Two of my visits at VEST have been nothing less than tragic. However, the staff and doctors at VEST have been nothing short of wonderful. Even in the worst situations they treat you and your pet with grace and dignity. I appreciate them for being part of some of my hardest moments and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for emergency care.

I highly recommend VEST. My dog was sent there from another ER vet in NC due to sepsis caused by failed intestinal surgery 5 Day earlier. I wish I had been referred to VEST for the initial surgery. It started with foreign body obstruction and we came very close to losing him. Everyone there was very friendly, knowledgeable and compassionate. Vet technicians, Natalie and Ashlee were especially helpful in explaining everything to us. They and the veternarians kept us updated on Hunter's progress. I am so thankful to all of the staff for saving his life.

I will never forget my experience at this vet hospital. They took such good care of my cat. I felt that all my concerns were heard and addressed beyond expectations. I was given explanations of every step of the way. I also really appreciated their financial disclosure. Every price was upfront and well documented. This made everything so much less stressful. The nurses and doctors all had a great attitude despite the nature of their work and the late nights they put in to keep our pets happy and healthy. This will certainly be my go to for any emergency vet care I need. I also felt the price to be well worth it for the level of care I received for my boy. I’ve been to a couple different vets over my time as a pet owner and have on occasion felt like it was test after test (and hundreds of dollars spent) with no actual treatment. This place certainly valued the care over the price tag. My cat has been doing so much better since getting seen by this practice. I’m just so grateful to have a local hospital that I know I can rely on. Many thanks to the wonderful staff who really went above and beyond!

Truly some of the most Caring staff. We had to rush our girl here for fluid in her heart and throughout the entire time there she was taken care of and so were we. They explained thoroughly what was going on, explained the options we had, and ultimately left the final decision up to us. She also stayed here for overnight care and they called through the night to provide updates on her heart, her eating, and how she was overall. I think the biggest thing is I didn’t leave there feeling like anybody should have/could have done more for her there or treated her differently. Very appreciative of VEST and truly recommend them if you find your pup needing emergency care.

Dr. Julia Podmayer was INCREDIBLE. She was extremely knowledgeable, caring, and understanding in such a critical and oddball case with my puppy. Even though they were extremely busy, they did an amazing job checking in and keeping the ball rolling. I never felt like we were left in a room and forgotten about. She was so kind to my baby, understood my financial situation, and worked with me to create the best possible at-home treatment plan. I truly cannot say enough nice things about her.
