Banfield Pet Hospital

📍 Cat veterinarians in Vancouver

4.2

Address is a dedicated veterinary practice offering care for senior pets, though experiences may vary in terms of personalized attention. The facility emphasizes a compassionate approach, particularly in handling long-term conditions, though some clients have noted a shift toward maximizing wellness plan benefits rather than focusing on comfort or clear communication about prognosis.

While the team is generally attentive to pet well-being, efficiency in appointment scheduling and follow-up—such as prescription processing—can be inconsistent. The exam process may lack direct owner engagement, and wait times occasionally exceed expectations. For those prioritizing thorough, empathetic care, addressing these areas could enhance the overall experience.

I’m very disappointed with my experience at Banfield Pet Hospital regarding my 17-year-old terrier mix, Skippy. Skippy had been diagnosed with renal disease and pancreatitis for years by the same vet, so his condition was well known. When I recently brought him in because he had stopped eating, I expected guidance focused on his existing illness and quality of life. Instead, after I enrolled in a senior wellness plan, it felt like the focus shifted to using as many plan benefits as possible. He was put through several tests, including heartworm testing and x-rays, and was prescribed probiotics he wouldn’t even eat, even though these didn’t address his known conditions. No one clearly told me that Skippy was likely nearing the end of his life or suggested focusing on comfort care instead of more testing. I wish the vet had been honest from the beginning about his prognosis so I could have focused on keeping him comfortable in his final days instead of putting him through unnecessary tests.

They always treat our dogs with love and are very kind to us.

We needed a prescription refilled. Even with an appointment, we waited 2 hours for the dog exam. I would have preferred that they called and pushed back the appointment. They do the exam in another room away from the owner. All I heard from the vet was "She's fine". No questions or interaction by the vet. Lastly, they said they would order the prescription that day. It took over two days and multiple requests for them to order the prescription.

It felt like they were just going through the motions. They miscommunicated with me the initial visit before my dogs operation and charged me for the same visit at the same time as the operation. Looking for a smaller, more welcome vet next time.

They have horrible response and updates. The Vet assistant we met in person was great with our cat. Very sweet and helpful. DR. Phillips was not great. We were told we need to get our cat to lose weight, while trying to figure out how much food that means it took weeks to get any response to our questions and I had to follow up multiple times to just be told "we will talk with the DR and get back to you" to then have to follow up again. The last straw is that I put in an order for my cats anxiety medicine earlier this week when we were down to the last 7 days of pills. I told the doctor we are down to 7 pills. They said the Doctor would be in the next day. Now we are down to our last two pills and I have yet to receive notification of the medicine being approved. Our cat gets violent when he does not have his medicine. This is so unacceptable especially since they are the ones that told us you cannot just stop giving the medicine to him as this one needs to be weened off. We are not happy with the services we have recieved. Edit:From what I have seen they follow the same script for bad reviews, sending you through a list of horrible suggestions that waste your time. There is no fixing this. You have lost a client and I will not be recommending or wasting my time with you further.

Amazing staff who are always quick to answer or find the answers to my questions and are very patient with me. I have the Optimum Wellness plans for my dogs from the Banfield organization, and they always let me know my options on how to utilize my plans to their fullest. Reminders are sent however I choose, with options being Email, Text and/or Phone call as well as standard mail. The website easily provides past visit information as well as lab results and other informationals. This location is the closest to the Banfield Headquarters as well.

The staff is overall very nice but wow hidden costs! I paid for the wellness plan (standard one) and literally SO much medication and treatment wasn’t included in the plan and they weren’t upfront about it. They tell you one thing then you look at your bank statement and realize you’re basically donating money to banfield and paying for extra treatments on top of it. They did a great job of talking me into this plan! Very disappointing after being a customer for years.
