I have been going to Somerville Vet for approx 15 years for my 3 dogs over the years. Today I had an appointment but was 3 minutes over their 10 minute 'late' window. When I arrived they told me I would need to reschedule. They also told me they had called my home land line. I asked them wouldn't it have been more logical to call the cell phone since I was in the car trying to find parking. She responded by confirming she had both numbers. I agree that this vet clinic is expensive and has gotten more expensive over the years. However, this now coupled with a complete lack of customer service for long standing clients no less is unacceptable. I have promptly made an appointment with another vet closer to me who I will use going forward. In short they lost a client. They probably don't care but for the record such a rigid approach to servicing clients shows a complete lack of empathy, personalization, and just plain common sense. I would not recommend this vet clinic due to their expensive rates and complete lack of good customer service.
I am so sorry that I brought my pet here. My dog has had a lump on her hip for about 2 years and we asked the vet about it repeatedly. Initially they told us it was fatty tissue and not to worry. However, it kept getting larger so we brought her back— my son brought her in specifically for that reason and they sent him away and didn’t charge us because they said they had already looked at it. Later, I brought her in because she hurt her paw. At the end of the visit, the doctor asked if I had any questions so I told him the lump on her hip seemed to be getting bigger— to which he responded "I don’t know why it wouldn’t." At her last annual checkup, they suddenly changed their minds and told us that it could be malignant and that "we" might have waited too long and it might not be possible to do surgery because "we" let it get so big. I am so upset. I am so sorry I ever brought Penny there and I would not recommend this vet to anyone. It honestly feels like a case of malpractice.
When I moved to the Boston area I tried a few different vets, including 2 others in Somerville. I just didn't like any of them for different reasons. A friend recommended this place and we've been coming here for about 5 years now. They do a great job! I haven't been able to get to know one vet because we tend to always see a different one and luckily we haven't needed anything too major, but I have always had a good experience. The office staff is always very friendly and helpful and they keep good records. Highly recommended.
They have been wonderful with my kitten. She came to me at five weeks and was tiny. Their guidance has helped my girl become a three pound healthy kitten. They allow her to roam in the exam room and she is chill while waiting. They also obviously love our fur babies.
The only negative is a lack of parking. The Center has no dedicated parking spots, while parking on the main street is rarely available, and all small streets around are by local permit only. Great experience otherwise. Nice, clean, competent, very responsive.
This place has gone down hill so bad. Called back to talk to the vet who left a message and never once heard back from them or anyone with information regarding our dog, you should NEVER have to call daily or have to call multiple times especially when the Vet leaves a voicemail with possible concerning issues. After 5 days of not hearing back we have officially had it with this vet and have transferred our dogs out of this practice. Completely unprofessional.
Somerville Vet Center is a teaching center. They teach and train the next generation of Vets. Knowing that, I expected to have different vets that may see my dog. We’ve been coming here for almost 3 years for my 4 yr old rescue dog. They have always been attentive and accommodating. They care for the pets they see. I would recommend.
