Torrey Pines Animal Hospital

5.8

Torrey Pines Animal Hospital in San Diego offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services, blending professional expertise with a compassionate approach to pet care. While some clients report occasional inconsistencies in administrative processes, such as billing or prescription delays, the clinic stands out for its dedicated team, including veterinarians known for their attentive and empathetic care. Personalized treatment plans and a focus on long-term relationships with pets and their owners are notable strengths.

However, staff continuity and occasional diagnostic discrepancies have led to mixed experiences. For pet owners prioritizing reliability and warmth, the hospital’s strengths in emergency care and surgical outcomes often outweigh these challenges. Clear communication and a supportive environment remain key aspects of their service, making it a solid choice for those seeking both expertise and genuine care.

We made a mistake by staying with this clinic for several years — it was an expensive and frustrating lesson. The front desk staff clearly do not care about clients. They repeatedly tried to increase our bill even when the veterinarian confirmed that certain procedures had already been completed. Dealing with insurance paperwork is another major issue: they are unable to fill out documents correctly, and when you ask them to state the correct reason for the visit, they shift the blame onto the client — even when the mistake was theirs — and refuse to fix it. One prescription took three weeks to be sent to the pharmacy despite multiple follow-ups. Diagnoses were often incorrect, forcing us to seek second opinions elsewhere. You will never have a consistent doctor. Veterinarians constantly change, and each new one comes up with a different explanation or treatment plan, so you are forced to start over every time. Bottom line: our relationship with this clinic is over. Complete lack of professionalism and accountability. If you truly care about your pet, you should look for another animal hospital.

I began bringing my cat, Oliver, to Torrey Pines Animal Hospital when he was about three years old, and he continued to receive care there until he passed away at six. From the very beginning, I was always impressed by the kindness, efficiency, and professionalism of the entire staff. Dr. Vora was our primary veterinarian, and it was clear how deeply she cared about Oliver’s health and comfort. When he was later diagnosed with FIP, she showed extraordinary compassion and took the time to guide me through every step with patience and empathy. When it came time to say goodbye, another doctor helped with the euthanasia, and although I can’t recall her name, she was incredibly gentle and compassionate throughout the process. One of the veterinary technicians even gave me a hug on the way out—a gesture that meant more than I can express and spoke volumes about the heart of this team. Losing Oliver has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I’m deeply grateful that he was cared for by such a dedicated, compassionate, and supportive group of professionals. Torrey Pines Animal Hospital is more than just a clinic—it’s a place where animals and their people are treated with genuine kindness and respect.

Thank you very much for fitting our sick lil’ Raven girl into your jammed packed schedule this morning. Your entire staff was helpful, professional, efficient, and most of all, caring. We got there without an appointment hoping to be seen after our lab was sick all night throwing up and you made it happen. She’s already much better and on the road to recovery. She’s sound asleep after a rough morning. I would strongly recommend your Vet Hospital to anyone.

This is the best vet in San Diego by far! We've been going there for 2 years and seen a couple of different vets, and every single one has been kind and knowledgeable. No matter the issue, they handle it professionally and make you feel reassured through the whole process. I've recommended many friends to come here and I will keep doing so. My pup has had pretty major surgery here and they have handled it perfectly and my pup was completely recovered within a week and is back to her usual self. I can't recommend them enough!!

I can’t say enough good things about this vet hospital, I think it’s been about 10 or 11 years now! They’ve taken the most amazing care of my boy every single visit, always with compassion, professionalism, and genuine love. We absolutely love Dr. McClellan, he’s truly the best. We trust him 100% because he always puts our boy’s wellbeing first. He’s an incredible doctor and we’re so grateful for him. The staff and front desk team are just as wonderful, so kind, attentive, and always ready to help. You can tell they truly care, and that means the world to me. It’s such a comfort knowing my baby is in such capable and loving hands. Thank you all for everything you do! I recommend this place to everyone in San Diego looking for a vet, they’re simply the best.

Dr. Tannler & Kate/Cate did an amazing job making my Shiba feel very welcomed at our first time visit. They were patient, kind and very thorough during her health certificate consolation, and even when I forgot to have my dog fast for her blood work they remained completely professional and made sure that my dog’s FAVN test for Hawaii was completed thoroughly. Dr. Tannler also gave me a personal phone call herself to notify me that her blood work was acceptable which I thought maybe her assistant would have done, but for her to do that herself shows speaks on how much she cares for her patients!! Kudos to the scheduling staff Emily as she was able to book me in quickly, and she was also very prompt on the email communication which I expected maybe a day response between emails. Yes the pricing for this Health Certificate and FAVN test for the Hawaii checklist may be pricey, but for one of the only locations that does it in San Diego this visit was worth every cent. Great work Torrey Pines Animal Hospital!

I'm a new dog owner to my puppy Archer. Archer has been going to TPAH since the day after I brought him home and he and I are so happy to have found this place as our vet. I debated between here and another vet office nearby, but when I called both places for information, TPAH gave me so much peace of mind and relevant information. Jennifer was the one that answered my first call and was so helpful with questions I had when choosing a vet and questions I had in general about their practice. Archer has seen Dr. Sophie Steele for all but 1 visit where he saw Dr. Tannler after Archer had an accident. I love that TPAH is open 7 days a week and does see urgent visits. Above all else, I appreciate and love the staff! Jennifer and Dara at the front desk are so kind and friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Sophie Steele is so patient with the endless questions I have as a nervous first time puppy owner. She's super knowledgeable and always gives Archer and I her undivided attention. Dr. Tannler is so kind and friendly and also knowledgeable, so I can only imagine the whole panel of vets are phenomenal and you can't go wrong with who you see. David, Emily and other vet techs whose names are escaping me have always been friendly, patient, and caring for any concerns, no matter how small. I've called the office so many times about the littlest things and they never make me feel bad about my concerns and encourage me to call if I ever need anything!
