VMD Van Voorhees, Leuthold, Tu, Nguyen, and Fontana are all exceptional veterinarians. Extremely knowledgeable and compassionate while also being very grounded and conscious of the fact that vet bills tend to be financially uncomfortable for most people. On the back end HOC is always extremely transparent about pricing and they’re also really good about letting you know what things are necessary vs. things that are more ‘in a perfect world’ / less urgent. i always feel 100% confident putting my dogs’ wellbeing in their hands and i think specifically this location is the best vet you’ll find in nyc.
The doctor was very understanding and kind. I took my cat Barnaby, I was concerned, I saw that he had brown urine., a couple days ago. They wanted to blood work and send his urine off to a lab. I explained my finances were very bad. I got a free exam, they trimmed his claws. Gave him some IV fluids and an antibiotic injection for a possible UTI. She saw he was healthy and ok. I couldn’t afford the blood work, I don’t think it was necessary for now. I’m sure he will be fine. She also spoke to my son on the phone who lives in California. I think her name was Dr Bassu? Sorry if I misspelled it. I had to put my cat Minnie down last week. My 13-year-old cat has asthma. I do the best I can for them. I feed them the best food I can. Barnaby had surgery in 2021 luckily he survived. he means everyone to me. Thank you Heart of Chelsea. That picture other photo is of him i and of Minnie. I miss her. She lived to almost 13. Barnaby is going to be fine, Thank you once again.
I cannot speak highly enough about Dr Leuthold. While she was not my puppy’s original vet, when he had an incident where he broke a bone in his paw she was exactly what both my puppy and I needed. She is warm, kind, helpful, patient, and thorough. She constantly checked on me and Teddy (my puppy) after sending us home from the initial incident. After almost every visit, she made it a priority to call and check in on his progress/behavior the following day. With his break, he needed to be back every three to five days and Dr Leurhhold made sure to make herself available. She made us feel so comfortable and like a number one priority. She is truly the best as is Dr Van Voorhees who originally saw my dog before the accident. I could not speak more highly of Dr Leuthold or Dr Van Voorhees - highly highly recommend either one or both :). My puppy has also seen Dr Deluty who was excellent. The level of service from these three vets and the amazing vet techs who supported their service was impeccable. It was worth every single penny and I would trust them to make any decision for my sweet Teddy. I have also seen Dr Tu. She was nice but definitely did not provide the same level of warmth or experience/service as the other doctors that we have seen.
- Excellent doctors (recommend Dr. Bassman), excellent techs, excellent front office staff, excellent management. No exceptions, which is rare. - Facility is kept immaculate without feeling sterile. - Very transparent pricing. - Their "Fear Free" handling can really make a difference, especially for older or vulnerable cats that can actually get sicker from stress. - Management and staff have always been responsive to even minor feedback. - Handling of insurance is seamless. Never have to even think about it. After 5+ years of having 3 cats at Heart of Chelsea (2 routine/healthy cats, one who went through an uncommon illness) we couldn’t be happier and have never been disappointed. It’s a 25 minute trip for us, but easily worth it. If you want to keep a healthy pet healthy, or have excellent, expert care for an aging or ill pet, I highly recommend Heart of Chelsea. Thanks Carlos, Rebecca, Dr. Bassman & Adrianna!
Heart of Chelsea offers top-notch veterinary care. Dr. Diane Bassman has genuine compassion and brilliant medical insight - whether it’s our annual wellness exam, or a serous conditions that requires surgery, she always partners with the other human in the room (me) to get the best medicial outcome. Vet Tech David is dedicated, thorough, and happy to go the extra yard .The front desk is warm and accommodating. I’ve known Mason the longest - he always gets my jokes and is quick to help. I would highly recommend ❤️ of Chelsea -and do quite often! Sadie’s Mom (Lynn)
Heart of Chelsea is the best. I’ve had my share of experiences at other vets and I must say they can’t compare to heart of Chelsea. My experience is always so good from the beginning to the end. Everybody is so friendly and very professional! I love them all! I trust them with all my babies!!
Dr. Andrea Tu is an amazing veterinarian. I accompanied a friend on a recent vet visit and I was so impressed by Dr. Tu. Her kindness, empathy and knowledge are incredible. She listened with such care to assure she understood all medical concerns. She then explained everything in great detail so that there was a clear path of treatment, and next steps. She not only has great care for the animals she is treating, but also for the people. I simply cannot say enough fabulous things about our experience. I would recommend Dr. Tu for anyone looking to find the best care possible for their pets in NYC.
