Sactown Vet

We recently switched to Sactown Vet for our two dogs. Our one dog is a little anxious and Dr Cole and the rest of the staff was so patient and found a treat she finally liked to win her over. The location is convient and easy to find parking. The office is nice and you immediately go to an exam room so your fur baby is never sitting in a crowded waiting room. They are very transparent and upfront about the costs. Love that we are supporting an independent business and yiu definately don't feel like a number here.

Every person I spoke to on the phone and interacted with in the office was incredibly kind! We were greeted immediately upon entering the office and escorted to a room. We hardly had to wait at all between arriving and actually being seen by the doctor. Dr. Cole was so gentle and sweet to our cat, who was very afraid being outside of his home. The price of the initial exam was very reasonable, and they provided excellent care without pushing anything on us, as some vets tend to do. We are thrilled to find a vet that we feel safe with and trust, we are officially a part of the family! Thank you!

I can’t say enough good things about this vet. The entire staff were incredibly kind and compassionate. They took amazing care of my 4 month old kitten, Maurice who had been not right for a few days. I got in same day. They took the stress out of the visit for him. I am grateful. Sactown Vet will be my vet from now on.

I brought my kitty in for a bad flea infestation, and I could not be happier. They are very much there for the right reasons. When I first arrived, they gave us a room immediately and there were no pets in the front lobby as they care about the stress levels of the animals. As soon as we got to our room, I was able to let my kitty out of her carrier and just roam around and she seemed to instantly calm down. They care so much for the stress of the animals that they have little kitty hidey holes she could go to feel safe while we waited (picture included). The staff were very kind and understanding of my financial situation as I do work for a non profit and cost of living is high. When they offered treatments, they did not pressure or guilt trip me like some vets do, they only made suggestions and allowed me to make an informed decision. All in all it was a great experience and I will definitely be going back if Penelope needs any more care!

Avoid SacTown Vet! Shocked how poorly they treated us after we’ve been with them for over a year. They refused to vaccinate my dog after only a few minutes and still charged the full $91 visit fee despite providing no real care. I clearly explained my dog has some sensitivity from past veterinary trauma. During the exam, they touched her from behind without warning, she gave a brief warning response (no bite), and they immediately stopped and refused to continue. The only options offered were: * come back for another paid visit with anti-anxiety meds they never told me about beforehand, or * take my dog to the back alone for sedation/anesthesia to complete vaccines. I don’t understand how separating an already anxious dog from their owner, restraining them, and sedating them is considered more "fear free" than a calm, controlled vaccine with the owner present. For context, my dog regularly goes to groomers and is handled all over her body without issue. This feels specific to the vet environment, not general aggression. I later went to another highly rated clinic and they handled her immediately and professionally. She was given treats, a muzzle was only used briefly as a precaution at the end, and she received all vaccines and testing in one visit within minutes—for a better price. This clinic felt rigid, poorly communicated, and more focused on protocol and repeat visits than actually working with the animal in front of them. I would not recommend them.

I don't recommend taking a reactive dog to this clinic due to the staff's lack of communication and knowledge about fear-free practices. I have been a client since 2025 for my nonreactive dog and my recently adopted sick, now-reactive puppy. Prior to my experiences this past May, I felt confident in Sactown Vet's staff; however, I had several poor experiences with Dr. Nunes and the staff. My reactive puppy began experiencing gastrointestinal issues that required urgent care. I trusted Dr. Nunes and the staff but then I noticed my puppy's gastrointestinal symptoms worsening which was due to the staff switching her prescribed bland food from "Low Fat" to "Regular". When I mentioned this, the staff said that diet is bad for puppies and they would never prescribe it for a puppy. I took notes at my first appointment with Dr. Nunes who informed me that "Low Fat" diet was safe for puppies and I took a picture of the can which showed that I was initially prescribed "Low Fat" bland food. My biggest concern was how unaccommodating Sactown Vet staff are with reactive dogs. I asked them before the appointment if I could bring her into the waiting room with no people around as well as limit people in the exam room because my puppy's triggers are people standing around and animals. Instead, the staff insisted I return my puppy to the waiting room with customers present to weigh her. They sent in a vet tech, wanted a vet student to shadow, another vet tech, the veterinarian, and a front staff member which repeatedly triggered my puppy and stacked the triggers to the point where redirection attempts were not as impactful when exam occurred. Dr. Nunes repeatedly told me to medicate my puppy, who is not muzzled nor medicated at her fear-free groomer who handles her without issue, and did not take time to discuss side effects or dosing recommendations. She did not discuss "happy visits" for desensitization training. I had a reactive dog and visited multiple, well-practiced veterinarians who did not have the "fear-free" brand, but took the time for slow introductions with my then-reactive dog and also discussed when to implement medication appropriately in conjunction with desensitization practices in a clinic environment. On an earlier appointment in May, Dr. Nunes did not take the time to introduce herself to my nonreactive dog before handling her to ensure cooperative care. When my dog leaned away from her, she asked a vet tech to place pressure on my dog's neck and head to forcefully manipulate her during an ear exam which I stopped. If she had taken the time to introduce herself to my dog, there would have been cooperative care without force. Lastly, I commend Dr. Cole Gevurtz who is individually fear-free certified and handled both of my dogs without incident because she took the time to make slow and positive introductions with my girls prior to examining them to ensure cooperative care. Dr. Cole made a slow introduction with my reactive puppy and only proceeded when her FAS level decreased significantly. She delivers excellent care and I am saddened to leave her care due to my recent poor experiences. Edit: Video shows my reactive puppy who had low FAS prior to stacked triggers. The picture shows the Low Fat EN food that Sactown Vet gave me on the week of 5/11/26 before I was informed it was bad for my puppy by their staff.

I met Dr Thornton 2 years ago at the farmers market and mentioned she was just opened up her own veterinary clinic. I went to try her out and absolutely fell in love with her and her staff. I previously was going to Franklin Ranch in Elk Grove and everything about every hospital I’ve been to seemed very stale and money driven. After my first visit at Sactown Vet I never went back to Franklin Ranch! I have five dogs and I switched them all over to Sactown Vet. The staff now knows ALL my dogs and me by name and it doesn’t feel like you’re at the vet at all. It’s not a scary experience for your fur babies but rather just going to see your favorite doctors! The staff is amazing and does not rush you with anything and answers every single question you have. You can tell they all care about animals and actually love their jobs. Unlike other places I have been. Dr. Thornton is amazing and the kindest caring vet I’ve ever met. She listens to you and actually cares about your babies. Your dogs get all the treats lick mats and calming bandannas if they need to keep them comfortable while just getting a regular check up. Something else to mention is that the exam rooms do not look like a regular vet either! They look like a child’s play area! It feels way more welcoming, and comfortable than a sterile hospital room! If you’re looking or thinking of switching vets check them out you will not go back to your old vet! The care you will receive here is unlike any other and worth it every time!
