So 5 minutes to look at 2 chihuahuas is $350, that comes down to $70 per minute to tell me that it would cost $10,000 to have real dental work done. For 2 small dogs. This place is a scam. Of course the initial $350 goes towards the procedure that is overly expensive to try and make people think they are now locked in with this place. Scam. Do not go here.

Really great team. Dr. Renner does a great job explaining things and she gave me a few options with estimates for my puppy's teeth. They work well with my schedule, and show a lot of love to my baby girl as well. I feel very comfortable with leaving her there to be taken care of.

I selected Veterinary Dental Specialties for our rough collie’s dental cleaning based on their assurance that they have a qualified anesthesiologist available for the procedure. Collies can be drug sensitive (MDR1) and we wanted the best care for our pet. The consult with Dr. Niemiec was October 7, 2023 here in Reno. There were no X-rays or other tests. It was just a brief visual scan of my collie’s mouth by Dr. Niemic for a $140 fee that would be applied to his eventual care. We set the procedure date for January 21, 2024. I called January 2 to ask a question and was told we were not even on the schedule! In repeated attempts to schedule for another date, I’ve been told that despite telling me otherwise prior to our consultation, they cannot guarantee an anesthesiologist will be available for the procedure. I paid $140 to be mislead. Despite multiple phone calls to Veterinary Dental Specialties requesting that if a date cannot be set, they need to refund me that consultation fee and I will find another provider, I have heard nothing. It seems fraudulent to claim you can offer a service that you cannot actually provide just to get someone’s consult fee.

I had a great experience with VDS and Dr. Niemiec! There were zero reviews when I originally scheduled which worried me a bit, so I thought I would leave a detailed one. 🙂 During the consultation he explained each different outcome that might occur based on just a visual exam, but made sure to state that of course we won't know the full extent of what's going on until they can take x-rays on the procedure day. For the procedure, they request that you wait in their office for an hour while your pet is put under anesthesia so that they can discuss with you as soon as possible about what they see after the x-rays and a further exam is done. Dr. Niemiec again thoroughly explained the situation and gives you options to make any changes to the plan before proceeding with anything! After agreeing, I could leave the office if I wanted but I was told it should only be about another hour so I decided to just wait there. Overall, I was there for about 2 hours and 45 minutes including checking in 15 minutes early and waiting for my pet to wake from anesthesia which was fine with me! 🙂 I'll admit that the first night home was pretty rough, but after lots of sleep my girl was already wanting to play the following night when she still needed to be healing! Within a week she was healed up pretty well already and is doing great. I'm just so glad Dr. Niemiec was able to save a tooth of hers that I was concerned about. I knew that if I had taken her to a regular vet they would just pull the tooth. I honestly had no idea that there was such a thing as dentistry for pets until now and I truely wish I had known sooner! For maybe I could have saved some of her other teeth that were pulled because I just didn't know that there were ways to save them. Of course it is quite the expense, but I thoroughly believe it is worth it for my baby and would do it again in the future if needed!
