Dr. Rick Paynter has been a true blessing to our family. My wife and I have two one-year-old female kittens — a Ragdoll (mink) and a domestic shorthair — and our experience with him and his team has been outstanding. At our first visit, we brought in our Ragdoll who was a little underweight. Dr. Paynter took the time to thoroughly assess her, explain everything clearly, and provide us with a thoughtful plan of care. Thanks to his guidance, she is now at a healthy weight and thriving. She is comfortable with Dr. Paynter and his assistants, who handle her with such care and gentleness. We’ll be bringing her back soon for her annual visit with complete confidence. More recently, our domestic shorthair was diagnosed with feline asthma. The level of attention, patience, and compassion the entire team showed us during this visit was incredibly reassuring. Dr. Paynter even shared insights from his own experiences, which made the conversation feel personal and thoughtful. He gave us an honest, balanced assessment, clearly outlining the pros and cons of medication without any pressure, and encouraged us to take time to discuss our options before making a decision. We are truly grateful for Dr. Paynter and his team and highly recommend them to any pet owner looking for knowledgeable, compassionate veterinary care!

Dr Paynter and Abby were absolutely amazing to me and my cat. My cat had swallowed something that I was nervous about and these two put my mind at ease. I felt frantic but they were super validating in my concern. For those of us who treat our pets like our children, it was super important to me that I felt seen and heard today from a nonjudgmental standpoint. My boy even got a treat 💙

The vets in this group are incredibly kind and caring. They have been accommodating when urgent needs have arisen for my dog. They are definitely not the closest vet to my home, but I will drive the extra distance for the wonderful care my dog receives!!!

We love this vet! While we were on vacation my mom brought our Teddy here when he had an emergency. She said the staff was so wonderful so we made the switch. Dr. Firestein is an absolute gem! You can tell she really cares about your fur baby! Also Kayla is a very attentive tech. She made Teddy comfortable during his appointment. What a beautifully renovated facility with a lovely staff! 🩷🩷🩷

I haven’t had the chance to actually establish much of a relationship with this Veterinary Clinic. However, my first visit for my cat who was over grooming — still, was an okay visit. It addressed some potential causes, but in turn did not help fix the issue. I felt it was over priced for what was performed, personally. I was skeptical of scheduling another appointment initially, because of the price of the first, and the ineffectiveness of it and that I have moved from the area since then. Around $700 for a diagnosis and medication prescribed for an over grooming cat, for reference.

I am so glad I found Owings Mills Vet Center for my pets. The entire staff are warm and compassionate and truly care about every pet that comes to the office. Dr. Firestein saved my dog’s, Taz, life and Dr. Franklin and Victoria supported me with genuine caring and understanding through end of life for my cat, Lily. Now, Dr. Paynter is doing all he can to make sure my dog, Max, lives the healthiest life he can. The front desk staff are super helpful and always call you back with updates. I cannot thank the entire staff enough for really being there for pet families in our community.

Instead of telling me my dog needed immediate hospital care for AKI, they decided to line their pockets and give him subpar treatment and useless medication at their facility. By the time I took him to the hospital it was too late. Now he’s dead. RIP Marley, you deserved so much better. UPDATE to clarify the lie: I wasn’t told to take Marley to the hospital until I spoke to a second vet that at the facility (Dr. Franklin). I ended up taking Marley to the vet that day after she said he should’ve been receiving all of his treatments at the hospital from the beginning. So please SPARE me. You literally said "typically this treatment is given in a hospital but we can give 1/2 day treatment here" you never said he needed to be immediately be taken to the hospital because I would have done that. You never said your care was insufficient for his needs. You guys couldn’t even give a proper diagnosis. It took 48 hours. And before the proper diagnosis was given, the pregnant vet had the AUDACITY to tell me I may have to start thinking about putting him down without any explanation. The $2000 I WASTED on your business would’ve covered TWENTY FOUR HOURS of IV treatment vs the three 6 hour IV treatments he got from you all. You do the math. Please don’t play with me or my emotions. Marley was my baby & got me through more than I could’ve ever imagined. I would have done ANYTHING to save his life. Maybe if Dr. Franklin would’ve been his vet things would have gone differently. Who knows. But it honestly doesn’t matter because my baby is gone.
