We had to take our rabbit to UW for an emergency when our regular vet was unable to take see him. When presenting our options after it was confirmed our rabbit had a liver lobe torsion, the vet used the term "gold level standard of care" regarding a surgery which would be around $5,000 dollars. This made us feel incredibly guilty and was very poor word choice. We ultimately decided to put our rabbit down given the risk of surgery and our rabbit's age. When discussing the end of life options, we opted to donate the body to UW, and didn't ask for anything besides a tuff of hair and a paw print which we understood to be a paw print impression in clay. We received the tuff of hair before leaving and were told that the paw print would be mailed to us. After three weeks, I had to follow up because we had not yet received the paw print. I was told that it was "in the wrong spot" and would be out in the mail that day. A week later, we still have not received the paw print. I had to follow up again. This time, I was corrected and informed that UW does not do claw paw prints, but instead, it was an ink paw print and to wait a few more days for the mail. Except for UW having some specialization services for rabbits, I would not recommend UW to treat your pet. They only care about money and clearly do not care how important a pet is.

I am so impressed with everything here, from the facility, the students, the doctors and even the front desk staff. Everyone is very friendly. The oncologists and surgeon answered all of my questions and were always available to communicate. I know my dog is in the best hands here.

We had an avian emergency which I thought was much worse than it was. Thankfully the staff was calm and effective. They relayed information clearly and directly and helped calm me when I was worried. They handled Lark (green cheek conure) so kindly. Nothing less than absolutely amazing. They were kind and caring to a degree I've never seen before in a vet. I will 100% always recommend them!

UW vet school is the best, and i say this as someone that experienced a tragedy there. Our sweet rescue girl had taken a fall and been limping and lethargic for a month. We took her to our family’s vet who took xrays, did an exam, told us it looked like a torn ACL, and referred us to a very expensive specialist. I decided to make the 2 hour drive to the UW vet school instead. They got my girl in early and going by the xrays our family vet sent told us it was probably cancer and poor xray technique. They took one more and low and behold my sweet old ladies hip had been completely dissolved by extremely aggressive cancer. I cant thank UW vet school enough for, not only, telling me and showing me exactly what was going on, but also for giving me some time to grieve. My sweet girl is across the bridge now and out of pain. Our little friends just dont know how to tell us that they are pain the way we do. Thank you, again, UW vet school though i lost my shadow of a dog i gained a lot of faith in the vet school and especially the orthopedic dept.

Our dog Josie recently reached a huge milestone. She celebrated her 15th birthday on December 6th, 2023. When Josie was one year old she went for a checkup with our local veterinarian. Our doctor detected a heart defect. After some testing we were told Josie would not live much beyond 2 years. We were devastated. My husband asked for an appointment at Iowa State University's Veterinary College of Medicine, the only college of veterinary medicine in our state. My husband attended the appointment and was given the same grim diagnosis. He pushed to have Josie evaluated one more time at another University Veterinary School. Within a few days he received a call from University of Wisconsin Madison Veterinary School. They would be willing to evaluate Josie. It was decided she would have a surgical procedure but the outcome was not a guarantee. The staff at U of W Madison were absolutely AMAZING!! And because of them, our little girl is 15 years old!!!

Best care we have EVER gotten for our dog. Our dog was so relaxed with the staff unlike at most vet facilities. We are so grateful for our wonderful experience there. This school came highly recommended to us and we are so happy that we decided to come. THANK YOU❤️❤️❤️

My dog suddenly collapsed Thanksgiving eve 1 year ago, in Green Bay. I took him to the Bay East emergency hospital. They told me they needed $1,200 to work on him. I didn't have that, so they said they could not help me. Luckily, a friend lent me the money. I was told my dog still might not survive. But he did survive. We spent Thanksgiving together, which was very special because I got him from a shelter 8 years ago on Thanksgiving day. But it was cancer, and he had internal bleeding, so we had to move fast. I brought him to UW and they, and my pet insurance (Pets Best), tried to work out a plan so my insurer would cover the 10k-15k it would take to try and save him, instead of me trying to pay that, which I couldn't. The process was ongoing, but my dog did not survive long enough. UW and my insurer tried their best, and cared. UW even lowered the cost of some of the initial procedures for me. I will never forget their kindness. Thank you.
