I had such a wonderful experience at our recent vet visit! The whole process was quick and easy, yet never felt rushed. Even though you could tell the team was busy, our amazing vet still took the time to sit down with me, patiently answer all my questions, and double-check every concern I had. It meant a lot—and so did the way she showed genuine love and care for my parrot, Apollo. That kind of attention makes all the difference! Since his beak trim, checkup, and nail trim, Apollo has truly started to blossom—he’s more active, vocal, and just seems happier overall. It’s clear he’s in good hands, and I’m so grateful to have found a vet I can truly trust with my Meyer’s parrot. Looking forward to many more visits with our wonderful Dr. and the team!
Dr. Kortney Roppel and the VAS staff are amazing. They are professional, highly knowledgeable, and caring. They have taken exceptional care of both our cat and dog, offering evidence-based, individualized care and joint decision-making. Our dog is a rescued, medically-complex, giant dog with chronic health issues and Dr. Roppel has cared for him for the last 3.5 years helping him to improve and thrive when the odds were not always in his favor. Locally owned, personalized, affordable, scientific vet care is important to us, and we've found just that at VAS.
I brought my guinea pig to this location due to an ear infection and URI. They were able to get me in the following day and was brought back to a room as soon as we got there. They were very thorough with their questions pertaining to how she had been doing and went over the treatment plan to help her to a quick road to recovery. Our visit was quick from start to finish and we were on our way before we knew it with a 2 week follow-up to check her progress. What impressed me the most was the Dr calling me early the next morning to see how my little guinea pig was doing. Not sure I have had anyone do that before. I absolutely do recommend this place to anyone! It is a really easy location to get in and out of.
I brought my Hahns macaw to this clinic for a routine annual wellness examination. She was only 8 years old, full of personality, and deeply loved. She had never been seriously ill and had always gone through veterinary visits without any problems. On the day of the appointment, she was taken to the treatment area for her examination. Within moments, I heard a brief sound from her and then silence. A short time later, I was told that she had experienced a sudden medical emergency. When I was allowed into the treatment room, my beloved bird was unresponsive and staff were performing CPR. Despite their efforts, she did not survive. The loss has been devastating. She was not just a pet to me—she was a cherished companion and a member of my family. I am heartbroken and struggling to understand how a routine wellness visit ended with her gone. A necropsy and pathology examination were later performed. The report did not identify an underlying disease that would explain her sudden death and indicated that extreme stress may have been a possible contributing factor. I am sharing this experience because I believe other exotic bird owners should be aware of the risks that can exist even during routine veterinary visits. I encourage people to ask detailed questions about a clinic’s avian experience, handling practices, and emergency procedures before entrusting them with a beloved bird.
I’ve been a patient of Samuel Vaughn for probably 3-4 years through high recommendation of my mother for exotic vet and loved him so. He took excellent care of my parakeet and added years to my parakeets life and saw my dog Ophelia for check up and was always spot on and of the highest quality. His practice has a new vet who saw my dog Ophelia today and she was absolutely amazing and very spot on!! I thought nobody compared to Dr. Vaughn but I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed with over all care and recommendations she had for my dog Ophelia. She addressed every concern for me and Beau got me an appointment very quickly which was very much appreciated in my time of need. I felt very comfortable with the Vet and would highly recommend to other pet owners for all pet needs and concerns!!
This was my first visit here, and can say, I won't go anywhere else for my puppy kids. Everyone from the staff talking to me over the phone, Dorothy and Bo, to Dr. Vaughn, were very friendly and patient with all of my questions and concerns and treated my little guy just like he was one of their own. They have the best pricing around by far and also offer new customer coupons on their website. They also take care of all kinds of other animals. I highly recommend them. Update: I took my mini dachshund to get neutered today and what amazing service. Dr. Vaughn called me after the procedure to let me know how everything went and how my little boy was doing. They did a great job and not only made him feel better but me as well. I am so glad I found this office. Such caring staff and Dr. Vaughn has great humor and care for all animals.
Since moving to Louisville, my wife and I have relied on Dr. Vaughn and company to take care of our indian ringneck parakeet Mina. Recently, Mina came down with a lung infection so I have been coming in weekly for treatments. After numerous recent visits, I've had enough experience with the clinic I felt I should leave a review. I trust Dr. Vaughn, and the staff treat us kindly and professionally. Sherri, the vet tech I most often see, has been great (she has done pet sitting for us as well). Dorothy and Beau, who I typically see in the front office, have been great as well. Overall, I really appreciate the care we've received and recommend them to anyone looking for a vet.
