We have been bringing our pets there for 10 years. Doctors there have helped us through the best and worst times. New puppies and kittens. Putting an old friend down when it was time. Doctor K and Dr T (now retired) and newly Doctor K's son are great. Caring. Effective. Efficient. They listen. Staff is friendly, helpful, patient. We take our pets nowhere else. (Except emergency vet when absolutely necessary) A good veterinarian is the Doctor for your non-human family members. Find one, and you will be much happier.

Dr Chris Knobel treats you like family. He gives you a free puppy exam when you first come there. When you lose a pet he sends a bereavement gift. He asks about your family when he sees you. He really cares about his clients. I have been going there since I was 19 and I am 54 now. I have known most of the staff a long time.

He put my heart at ease knowing my kitten was being looked over by someone who truly loves what they do. The reasonable pricing for specialized food, vaccinations, and examinations reflects the exceptional care they provide to anyone who comes through their doors. Despite having visited other pet hospitals in the area, Mae Rae Animal Hospital remains our top choice due to the staff's unwavering dedication and attention to each animal. I've been bringing my pups, Roxy and Copper, to Mac Rae Animal Hospital for years, and every visit is a tail-wagging delight! Chris and Jaden are simply pawsome. I've been to several vets around the Des Moines area and this vet is, by far, the absolute best one I've found. The prices for the qaulity of care is unbeatable. Dr. Jaden is the sweetest! He listens and discusses several different options along with the financial costs so that I can make the best decision I can. I love my dog more than the world, and I'm so grateful to have found this vet when I did. My pup is 15 years old and needs a quite a bit more medical attention than he once did. I trust this vet and highly recommend to any pet loving parent. Dr. Knoebel is wonderful too! Very informative about what is going on with your pet which I appreciate. The front desk staff are amazing too and Andy always remembers little things that makes me feel even closer to this clinic. A+++ I had to put my favorite being down on March 6th, 2026 and that was truly a dark and emotional day for me... always will be. But having this clinic by my side, made it a little easier. No one else I'd rather have than Maccrae Animal Hospital. Through thick and thin. 🥰

We brought our dog Sadie in to be euthanized. Dr. Knoebel was so caring and compassionate during such a difficult time. He explained everything, gave us the time we needed and we weren’t rushed even though it was past their closing time. He was so gentle with our baby.
