Just took my 10 year old cat here due to weight loss and not eating. Let me start off by saying my experience exceeded my expectations. Staff was warm, welcoming and very informative. The doctor was so empathetic and supportive to our situation. Wait time was a bit long but that was expected due to me being basically a walk in. I went in for my cat not eating and before we left she finished a can. The news I received wasn’t the greatest however the doctor went over many options with me I didn’t feel pressured for any procedures etc she was kind and patience with us.
I’m writing this review very late in the game but as I’m looking for a new vet I was reading these reviews and wanted to add my experience. I brought my dog here a little over a year ago and then my boyfriend brought our cat in last year. Both times our bills were way over a thousand dollars. I’ve had my pets for many years and I haven’t spent nearly that amount on a routine vet visit before. They also cut past my dogs quick which at the time I chalked up to him being squirmy. But after reading reviews about others having similar experiences, I’m thinking it was negligence. I just want to help other pet parents protect their babies. Please go anywhere else.
Bedford Stuyvesant Clinic is amazing I would recommend them to anyone in need of a good Veterinary Clinic in the area. The staff is patient and kind. My kitty "Darla" was having complications with her pregnancy and delivery and these guys made her comfortable and relaxed the entire time. The care was excellent and they gave me updates every hour to inform me that she was doing well. Thanks again to the staff at Bedford Stuyvesant Clinic. I now have grand-kittens 🥰
I brought my cat here in the past twice. They overcharge and look for extra stuff to add on bill. If you ever plan on going make sure you are already familiar with your pet and a clinic. Because they absolutely will upsell. It sad that if you really need help, they are more worried about your pockets. I been stop going here. However I seen other people speaking up so I'm too speaking up.
I took my senior dog here due to ongoing diarrhea, concerns about possible vision loss, and weakness in his back leg. Unfortunately, the veterinarian seemed to dismiss or avoid addressing any of my actual concerns. Instead of discussing possible causes or solutions, the focus was immediately placed on excessive testing and blood work. I was quoted nearly $1,000 in tests, on top of a $75 exam fee, with no clear explanation of how these tests would help or what the next steps would be. I left without answers, without a treatment plan, and without any real reassurance about my dog’s condition just a long list of charges. The clinic itself is extremely small, and you can clearly hear staff conversations. It became obvious that every client was being given the same scripted recommendations, regardless of their pet’s specific issues. The experience felt rushed, impersonal, and financially driven rather than focused on genuine care. If you truly care about your pet and want thoughtful, individualized treatment not unnecessary testing and inflated billing I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This visit felt more about profit than compassion. Also the African American female doctor that is advertise on there site was no wear in site.
avoid this place like the plague. i brought my three legged dog here yesterday because she had a very small piece of glass in her front paw that bears most of her weight and i wasn’t able to remove myself. i could see and feel the glass so i knew it was superficial. they brought her back into the exam room and said "we’re going to clip her nails" immediately 3 nails were cut beyond the quick and she was profusely bleeding all over the table. the doctor came in and barely looked at her foot and said ok we’ll see what we can do. they bring me a $1400 bill (!!!!!!!!!!) and told me they were going to need to sedate her. i didn’t trust them to sedate her nor did i think it was necessary so i argued and they came back with a $400 bill which just shows how much extra shit they had added just to see if i would pay it. they took her back to administer lidocaine and moments later they come get me to say that she’s stressed and had defecated on the table and they needed to sedate her. i asked if i could be in the room as it would probably calm her down. they let me back there and what i found was three adult men pinning my dog pinned to the table with the SMALLEST TIGHTEST MUZZLE I’VE EVER SEEN she could hardly breathe. please keep in mind my dog has been SHOT BY A GUN and is extremely trauma ridden and has NEVER worn a muzzle in her life so of course she was stressed and defecating. i took the muzzle off and calmed her down long enough for the doctor to simply flick the piece of glass out of her foot with a needle. the assistant was holding an iphone flashlight upside down for the doctor to see the injury. they were unfocused and unprofessional and my dog and i left absolutely traumatized and i truly cannot believe that this place has any good reviews. the only person in that place who seemed to know what they were doing was the man working reception who brought my bill down and apologized but truly an awful experience and i will never be back.
There's a reason this place has been in business for so long. If you're looking for a Vet who will work with you on a human level to make sure your pet is the healthiest version of themself, go here. My cat's a senior now and she needed some teeth extracted recently. My poor girl was in so much pain, she was so irritable the last few months and now, just a few days out of surgery and she's way better, way chill, so much happier. So, big thanks to you all:) And, for you the reader, I'll tell ya a little more. My kitty and I moved to Brooklyn a year ago and originally went to BondVet, a mistake. After receiving what I came to find was an absurd quote (by bond) I reached out to seven other vets for a price range before going to Bed-Stuy Vet. The price range they gave me was competitive with the other clinics in the area but the reason I chose to go with them was because the two people I spoke to on the phone were personable and kind through multiple calls and a lot of questions asked. They were able to get my girl in for surgery the same week as the exam and all of the vet techs and the vet I communicated with clearly cared about helping my cat feel better; and too, wanted to make sure I knew everything about the procedure before and after. It was a sweet relief to interact with a team of people who have a familiarity with one another that fostered the sense that I could trust them. I've had my little lady for years now, we've moved many times and we've had to go to a few different vets at this point and this was by far the best vet experience I've had. It feels fantastic to know my girl is good hands moving forward! Skip the vet startups that will overcharge you and go to a local mom and pop shop like this one! Thanks again Bed-Stuy Vet:)
