SoMa Animal Hospital

I haven't seen anyone mention bunny neutering yet, so I thought I'd share my experience! SOMA animal hospital took wonderful care of my 5 month old boy Mack. They did a thorough pre-procedure process with labwork and lots of aftercare info. He was given meds with easy instructions and was handled so carefully and they were in touch with me the whole process of the neuter. I was terrified just because of how delicate rabbits are under anesthesia, but they did such a great job and he had zero issues post-op. The one thing I will say is this specific animal hospital is extremely expensive compared to other exotic vets in SF, but it's worth it if you want proper care. I would rather spend 1 grand and have my baby safe and taken care of than spend $600 somewhere else and put my baby in danger.

I am too busy to write reviews. But I was impressed yesterday 5/16/26 when we had 1st visit at SoMa Animal Hospital and My new twin Cockatails checked by Kelly Rockwell DVM. Knowledgeble, patient, passionate and kind. Office is clean with beautiful interior design and welcoming staff. We booked an appointment for our cat Angel next week. I recommend this Animal Hospital to all cats, dogs, and birds lovers.

We take our cat to Dr. Jayson Johnston and have had such a wonderful experience every time. He is incredibly patient and thorough, always taking the time to answer all of our questions and never making us feel rushed. You can tell he truly cares about both the pets and their parents. The clinic is very clean, and the entire staff is absolutely amazing—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Thank you!

SoMa Animal Hospital—and especially Dr. Johnston—are truly exceptional! From the moment we walked in, my dog felt comfortable and cared for. Dr. Johnston took the time to answer all of my (many!) questions with patience and expertise, and his exam was incredibly thorough. I was genuinely impressed by his knowledge, attention to detail, and how much he clearly cares about his patients. The thoughtful touches throughout the visit really stood out—fresh water and treats at check-in made us feel instantly welcomed. The clinic itself is spotless and beautifully designed. Our exam room even had floor-to-ceiling windows, which made waiting a breeze as we enjoyed some fun people-watching. I can’t recommend Dr. Johnston and the entire SoMa team enough—they go above and beyond in every way!

Pretty disappointed with Soma Animal Hospital's response (or lack thereof) to an issue that has persisted for 3 days. I have established care with them and have considered them "our vet", but I will have to look elsewhere to provide timely guidance because this group's response is often "if things get worse, take him to emergency care", even when I call them during the day when they are supposed to be open. I had a good experience with them at our wellness visit and for preventative care. I cannot speak to pricing because I have not compared with other local vets.

I can't say enough amazing things about this veterinary clinic. Dr. Johnston, Dr. Wood, and Dr. Crawford have all been incredible with both my cat and my dog. I especially want to give a heartfelt shout-out to Dr. Crawford. A few months ago, my cat was very close to crossing the rainbow bridge, and I brought him in for an urgent visit. It was Dr. Crawford's quick thinking, expert decision-making, and calm nature that saved my cat's life. It was an incredibly emotional day, and Dr. Crawford showed so much compassion while guiding me through the best decisions for my cat. He and his staff stayed with me until almost 10 p.m., waiting for the veterinary ambulance to arrive and transport my cat to the hospital. How amazing and sweet of them! Because of their dedication and care, I still have my sweet old man with me today--and he's doing well. I'm forever grateful and thankful to everyone at Soma Animal Hospital! ♥️

The staff are all very friendly and I have no doubt in the high-quality of care offered here. However, I felt like I was misled regarding some of the billing. I took my dog in for his annual physical and he was due for five vaccines. The doctor advised that I do the first three vaccines today and then do the additional two on a different day to reduce the risk of side effects from the vaccines. It was explained to me that the only inconvenience to me was having to bring my dog in twice. However, all the additional visit I ended up being charged an additional $44 for a nurse office visit. I wish this would have been explained to me that there would be an additional charge with the nurse visit; if I had known there would be an additional charge I would’ve just had all the vaccines done on the same day. Nonetheless, the staff are all great. I just wish the billing had been more transparent.
