Dr. Granum and her assistant are professional, insightful, great communicators and always go the extra amount to make sure my cat is cared for. I adore them!

I have had by far the best veterinary experiences at the North Portland VCA. They were always kind and understanding, and facilitated a quiet and calming environment! I recently brought my cat in for a limp but while I was there the vet discovered more concerning findings and referred me to a 24/7 animal hospital. I was extremely distressed as I thought I was bringing her in for a simple sprain, only to find out she had a heart murmur and was showing signs of liver failure. Knowing this, they did not charge me for the exam and offered a handful of options as my next steps. The only reason I take one star off is because I had a horrible experience with the hospital they referred me to and ended up having to put my sweet girl to sleep because I could not afford to hospitalize her indefinitely. I will definitely continue to come to the VCA when my next pet comes into my life, but I will do my own research before running to the nearest animal hospital.

I was a regular from back when this was North Portland Animal Hospital, it was excellent and affordable back then. I was just brought to tears with their prices. There's real PRESSURE to sign off on extra expenses. No compassion if you can't just drop a $1,000 on a follow up office visit. Item by item, the urgent care was about the same price or a few bucks more. They will force a $103.45 rabies shot on you, even for indoor cats. They do not allow you to sign a Rabies waiver anymore. This place is 100% about profit and money. 😔 There must be high turn over, I've never seen the same vet twice. They seem to always have different faces and are somewhat interchangable.

Ok Cool

I’ve been here three—maybe four—times, and every visit has been disappointing. Their prices are outrageous. I came in for a simple annual exam and a couple of updated shots for my dog, and they tried to upsell additional services without ever mentioning the cost. Then they rushed me to sign off on a $550 bill for an exam, two shots, anal glands, and a fecal test. When I asked about payment options, the only thing they offered was a "membership plan" that made no sense. They claim to prioritize creating a safe, comfortable environment for animals, but in my exam room they couldn’t even handle my 10-pound dog. They poked him at least three times before I finally said I needed to step out because it was ridiculous. Only then did they say, "Oh yeah, we can take him to another room." The whole thing was frustrating and completely unnecessary, and it made the experience stressful for both my dog and me. I also tried to talk to the receptionist about insurance. They barely acknowledged me, refused to make eye contact, and when I asked what insurance they accept, I got a sarcastic "I don’t know." What a waste of time and energy. This place seriously frustrated me. I won’t be back, and I don’t recommend anyone go here.

Dr. Granum, Jessica, and Iris are amazing! From the moment I arrived looking like a mess who just ran out the door (because I had) and stressed about my senior cat, they were kind, patient, and welcoming and non judgmental. They answered all my questions respectfully and treated my girl gently. As we talked it was clear how everyone's choices were guided by data driven evidence and training. They explained everything in a way that allowed me to actively participate in the appointment as an informed partner. They followed up quickly and checked that she was doing better. They were understanding of my financial situation, and even learned how to pronounce my cat’s unusual name correctly. Knowledgeable, compassionate, and genuinely caring—one of the best vet experiences I’ve ever had.

We are new patients at VCA North Portland and I have to say we are extremely happy with their level of care, the kindness of the staff, and how they interact with our four dogs. Dr. Mitchell is a pro and was so gentle and sweet with our dogs. She spent a couple of hours with me and our pops just getting to know them and answering my questions. The entire staff was lovely. Yes, it can take a little while to get in as they are pretty booked up, but I’m glad we waited. Would definitely recommend them to other pet owners.

I just started bringing Winston here less than a month ago. I couldn’t be happier with our experience there . I had a gut feeling that something was going on with Winston. He had significant behavioral changes and he’s been experiencing physical changes as well . I switched vets because I knew that VCA has the care club and would be helpful for as often as we need to go into the office. Just by luck we scored an appointment with Dr. Hogan . Never have I ever had a veterinarian spend so much time getting to know him as she did . And I’ve had excellent veterinarians. Winston is a lucky guy . But Dr. Hogan is truly a gift . She is thorough, kind , smart and PATIENT. Her assistant Shay is so sweet and kind as well . Those two make a great team . Thank you Dr. Hogan . You mean so much to us . I also need to mention the front desk staff. They are also very kind and so sweet . All of you are incredible and we will always be grateful for all of you .
