Wakarusa is by far the best veterinary care in Lawerence. The staff is welcoming, understanding, and focus heavily on education. When AJ here got a dental, not only did they email us a video of their procedures, processes, and facilities- she got red light therapy to help heal her gums, a complimentary nail trim. Dr. G is the BEST

I had to put down my best friend yesterday. It was one of the hardest things ive ever had to do. They were so compassionate and supportive and kind through the whole process, gave me the information without trying to convince. They gave him the dignified and loving passing that he earned after 15 years of loyal companionship. I love you Max, you are already so missed. ❤️

Been taking our cat and dog here for years and Dr. Amend has been so great. She’s very personable too! She has a true passion and shows that in her work. She will listen to your worries and is very very knowledgeable in her profession. Her empathy is shown strongly through the way she talks to the animals and families she works with. This hospital is filled with kind and understanding staff! Totally recommend.

I recently took my dog Domino for a dental procedure. They were super fast on scheduling an emergency appointment for me compared to other local vets that had no availability till November!! Dr. Amend was amazing, she was very kind and explained to me what needed to be done for Domino’s procedure. Everything went well and Domino is recovering. They had follow up calls to make sure he is doing well with the medicine they prescribed him. Overall great experience! Thank you so much!! 🙂

All the Dr's and Technicians are great. They have taken care of 6 of my Fur babies and they treat them as if they were their own. Would recommend to anyone to take thier fur babies to them anytime.

I have been bringing my pup here for 2 years and everyone is amazing! They answer all my questions, even the neurotic ones, and genuinely listen to all my concerns. My dog genuinely loves going to the vet and seeing Dr. Gleeson! They are also very affordable and will make sure you understand any expenses that could be incurred during treatments. They also understand that all dogs are different. For example, my pup does MUCH better if I am there and the one holding my her if she is hurt. They take that into consideration and let me hold her if that is needed. She is a very clingy puppy, but doesn’t even bat an eye if she has to be taken back away from me but the vet techs because they are all just as kind and amazing as the vets. And don’t get me started on the AMAZING front desk staff they have who are also kind and know my pup by name. I love having a vet that I can trust with my pup. They follow up on care just to make sure everything is okay. I am so glad I found this vet!

There are not enough words to express the appreciation for the care my golden retriever received here over the last three years. These were the harder years of her life as she had a seizure disorder that went from controlled to uncontrolled. Dr. Gleeson and the entire team were there every step of the way. Dr. Gleeson always listened to my worries, returned every phone call, and made sure my girl was seen whenever she needed care (or my over-worry thought she needed a check up). I never once felt brushed off or invalidated. They heard me and treated my 8 year old golden girl with such compassion, the staff always remembered her and greeted us when we came in, it felt very personal. When the time came to say goodbye at the end of July 2025, they made that hard day as peaceful and gentle as possible. I am forever grateful for the kindness, attentiveness, and care they showed Lucy and myself.
