Tender Care Animal Hospital

We lived in Iowa City for a year for work and established our vet care here. They were so wonderful! Both our dogs are rescues and have a few quirks. the older one is terrified of the vet (I think it reminds him of a shelter), but they were calm and attentive to him. He had to have 2 teeth removed because they had cracked and they took amazing care of him. The younger dog is scared of people…except not the people here! I have no idea what they did to make her like them but they did! The vet always called after a procedure to check how they were doing at home which was above and beyond what I expected (vets are busy!). Due to Covid you can’t go in to the office always, but this SHOULD be expected. It’s for the safety of the staff and if they staff is sick your animals can’t get care. My husband and I are both very sad to leave this vet - we wish we could take them with us to PA! (Dog photos attached 😃)

We have been coming here for almost 2 years now after we adopted Zoe. She certainly isn’t the easiest or most compliant patient, but all the staff are always very professional and do what they can to accommodate her anxious tendencies! We will be moving out of state soon and I am sad to have to find a new vet cause this one is awesome!

Update: Tender Care comes through again. During our yearly vaccines they discovered Betsy had low levels of heartworms and the doctor and staff have been amazing during this process. We cannot thank them enough for catching this and for taking care of her through out the last few months. We wont have a 100% complete heartworm free bill of health until about a year from now but I appreciate their level of care. Original review: We had a minor scare with our new family member when she started having what seemed like a UTI or stones. I asked for an appt online as it was past business hours and was able to get in to them the next day. Very polite and friendly staff and Dr. Sabourin was very informative and took great care of Betsy. They told us more about the types of stone it could be and took extra xrays just to verify that the stones were all gone. They also followed up after the urine and stone work came back and all is well with our Betsy 🐝! Thank you!

We recently moved to the Iowa City area and I brought along my senior cat. We ended up adopting a 5 year old Yorkie who as far as we had known had never been to a vet. She was in desperate need of dental surgery (as her baby teeth had never fallen out) they was causing all of her teeth to rot. Tender Care was able to get us in as a new patient the same week we called. Most other vets in the area were scheduled 3 weeks or more out. Our dog and cat have both been in several times due to their on going health conditions. Both Dr. Zimmerman and Dr. Sabourin are amazing. They always answer all of our questions (and we have lots) and will take the time to speak to us on the phone without trying to rush us. The rest of the staff is also extremely friendly and I'm so glad that we were able to find such a quality vet practice to take our animals to. Their price is also fairly reasonable. Thank you Tender Care for being so great!

I can't say enough about this place. My dog had an emergency but none of the area vets would take her on such short notice, not even our regular vet, and the emergency vet wouldn't see her because she wasn't critical. Tender Care was able to get her in, get her the medication she needed and schedule her surgery, which the doctor is having to come in at an abnormal time to do. All while still being very reasonably priced. They're even willing to keep her overnight before her surgery in case I'm not able to bring her in that very day. I'm forever grateful to Tender Care, they helped my dog when no one else would.

Let's just put it this way: my dogs LOVE going to the vet. Very responsible nice people.They helped us a lot with our pet insurance claims, no delay or problem in filling the forms and faxing them to the insurance company. I have never had a problem scheduling an appointment. They answer all your questions and give you lots of options and also plan ahead so you know what are you dealing with. They will call you to check up on the dogs and the staff are like the nicest people on earth.

Dr. Hinson was our main vet and she is fantastic. My dog was always nervous to go to the vet, but he would always calm down when he saw her. She is very knowledgeable, and obviously loves animals. My dog had a long illness and both doctors were great about following up to check on him. When he deteriorated so quickly at the end, they got us in right away and were extremely compassionate. All of the staff were friendly and professional throughout the years there. I would highly recommend.
