Specialists in Companion Animal Neurology (SCAN) - Clearwater

I cannot say enough amazing things about Specialists in Companion Animal Neurology (SCAN) and Dr. Jenna Lind. My Greyhound, Hammond, suddenly declined and was in excruciating pain, unable to walk, and despite everything my regular vet tried, he wasn’t improving. SCAN worked him into their schedule the very same day—even though they’re not an emergency clinic—and stayed late to perform his MRI, which showed a severe C6-7 herniation requiring complex surgery. Dr. Lind and her entire team went above and beyond. Greyhounds are uniquely challenging patients, and Hammond’s surgery and recovery had unexpected complications, but they never gave up on him. Their compassion, expertise, and unwavering support carried us through every setback. Today, just 2½ months later, Hammond is walking, happy, and living his full life again—and I truly credit Dr. Lind and the SCAN team for giving him that second chance. This is an extraordinary practice filled with the most caring, skilled, and dedicated professionals. They treat you and your pet like family, and I will be forever grateful. Five stars isn’t enough.

Dr Lind and Amber are absolute angels. I truly believe if we had gone anywhere else we wouldn't have our sweet girl anymore. Dr Lind was very direct and gave us SO much of her time and was incredibly thorough with every step. We unfortunately weren't candidates for surgery. However, through Dr Lind and Amber's guidance I was able to be everything my pup needed to survive. They gave so much compassion love and energy to us during such a devastating time and helped us to be able to confidently care for our newly paralyzed dog. All while pretty much wiping my tears! From thinking it was time to say goodbye to our baby, to her new wheels and lease on life, the scan team has been an absolute BLESSING!! Thank you all so much ❤️

Tech Brook and Dr Laifer were amazing! They were both so kind and helpful! Dr Laifer took us in super super last minute and took time helping and explaining options to me. Felt no pressure to do surgery or get expensive MRI. Yall really were great, thank you so much for your help and patience!! They seemed to care about my dogs mystery issues just as much as me. Squirt says thanks!!

SCAN has been absolutely wonderful! From agreeing to see our dog Colby on a Friday afternoon, to doing emergency surgery till 8pm the same night, and constantly updating us on how he is doing. We could not have asked for a better team to take care of our baby. All of our questions & more were answered and we felt at ease. Colby is doing amazing and it is all due to the wonderful team at SCAN. Colby went from being partially paralyzed on Friday to up & walking less than 48 hours post surgery. The team is amazing & big shout out to Christina & Dr. Cook. Everyone was super friendly & professional but also loving to our baby. Wouldn't change a thing!

Update: It's now been over 3 years since Fritter had his spinal surgery here; and he's still going strong. Other than needing a little help peeing and dealing with his incontinence, he is my most energetic dog by far. Forever grateful to the team here for working their magic. -- The staff at this location are all very compassionate and caring of animals. I took my little Fritter in over some back pain on the weekend. They had hoped it was treatable with medication. Sadly it was not. I came back with Fritter late at night on Monday after he lost function in his legs. Dr Lind arrived at 10-11pm to care for Fritter and run MRIs and check ups on him. She's very thorough and makes sure you are fully informed of your options before proceeding. I am very grateful places like this exist. I felt like my world had come to an end very suddenly and they've given me hope I might still have some time with my Fritter after a little TLC. Also shout out to Susan at the front counter who is just a ball of energy and good vibes and the other staff who were more than accommodating at all times. They even sent me a photo of my baby after surgery ❤️

Edit: After your response, I would like to add that I was in the ER for hours waiting for feedback from your office. You received a phone call from the ER vet and two calls from me, and that was apparently not "urgent enough" for your reception staff to make any effort. It was not a one I am extremely disappointed with the level of care and support we received during my dog’s final hours in the ER. The receptionist made no effort to help us get in touch with my dog’s neurologist, even though it would have taken just 2–3 minutes to facilitate a conversation that could have helped both me and the attending vet make an informed decision about my dog’s care. In such a critical and emotional moment, that lack of urgency and compassion is unacceptable. It felt like this clinic prioritizes money over genuine care for animals and their families. Shame on you for failing us when it mattered the most.

I really feel the need to share the incredible experience we had at Scan. Our 5 year dachshund Juliet suffered a ruptured disc. This injury rendered her paralyzed in the hind legs. We were devastated and in shock. The emergency vet told us to consider end of life measures. When we took Juliet to her vet they recommended Scan for MRI & surgery The surgery is super expensive but it was necessary. After the surgery she stayed 4 nights and we were called every night by the amazing vet. He was so patient and compassionate and offered us hope. We eventually brought our baby home. They gave us incredible instructions, exercises and spent a lot of time walking us through taking a paralyzed dog home. She continued at home to improve. At 1 month we brought her back, her staples were removed and the vet again spent a lot of time with us. I could not have asked for a better experience in such a traumatic event. The surgery was over $7,000 but the other quote was way more and from the vet who told us to put her down.if you are ever in this situation I highly recommend this team.
