I have been blessed with my Pomapoo, Snowball for 6 years. I love her and want her life to be happy. I recently moved back to Chicago and found West Loop Vet at the Streeterville location. In the past, first appointments were so stressful yet not this time and I am so relieved!!!! Dr. Erica Esser is the Director and met with Snowball and me. She explained the protocol and all of the measures that they take to ensure health and happiness for Snowball. Dr. Esser and the staff that I met did what they said and followed up afterwards. It is a good place for pets and a good place for all.
The place is clean and the vet and technicians are caring and handle your pet well. They also do a great job managing emergencies and follow-through on your pet's condition, very caring. My cat has anxiety and I've always felt comfortable taking him here. My only disappointment is that the medications are almost twice the price for everything. A box of Nutramax Proviable which is available for $25 bucks at the Petco in River North was $60 at this vet. Same with the vaccines. More than twice the price at this vet. Good service but I would go elsewhere to pick up vaccines and medications. I mentioned this to them and they said it was the location (Streeterville). Petco in River North, which is the right next door, has the exact same meds for half the price.
We love coming to this vet. The practitioners are caring with the animals and offer lots of advice for behavioral issues as well as a thorough explanation of medical procedures and their benefit. We got a detailed email with suggestions for our cats urinary problem. It’s very clean, very little wait time and they’re direct about the pricing. Monti came out happy and we came out relieved to know he does not have any serious medical condition. Thank you Dr. Esser!
We will not be returning. Our tech S rushed me through intake questions, cut me off while I was speaking multiple times, and did not listen when we were advocating for our pets that exams are best when less restriction is done. My cat was scuffed and then put into a burrito wrap- all things that never had to be done in her previous exams (shes 9 yrs old). Our dog also was held in a way he could not sit for the exam. Our pets were over handled and then couldn’t get the tests/procedures done afterwards. It didn’t seem like the vet was assertive with the techs to advocate for the patients either. Pricing was expensive- $45 anal gland expression that they couldn’t complete since my dog was not tolerating it- but I believe if they tried to bond with him prior to doing something so invasive, it could be done as he’s also never had issues elsewhere with this. We did not take up the allotted time, 45 min appointments, and still felt rushed. We also waited a while to be seen post tech by the vet. All in all will not return. Idk if their owned by some big corporation but going back to a smaller practice that seems less corporate and more caring
Best team ever!! Took my miniature dachshund in and he loves it. He got neutered in December and Dr. Campos was great. She answered all the questions I had in the beginning before the procedure, during the recovery process. My german shepherd loves Dr. Mombello as well as my kitten. All three of my pets see Dr. Mombello as their primary veterinarian. They are taken care of from point A to point Z. I love that they send me pictures of how they are being taken care of. Not once do I have to worry when my kiddos are in their care.Truly amazing team.
This vet has been the best for our golden retriever. They clearly care so much about giving him good care and making him enjoy his visits. We recently got a dental exam/cleaning bc his breath was getting bad, and it was such a smooth experience and such a big improvement. Everyone took the time to explain the procedure and aftercare instructions. Would highly recommend!
It’s been a year now, but I think it’s worth it to let potential new customers know how much this veterinary clinic is knowledgeable and cares for your pets. Quick summary: - at the end of December 2024 our cat’s toe got swollen; - at the end of January 2025 he had x-ray (for no reasons, it turned out), fine needle aspiration, and skin biopsy for an overall cost of over $3000; - the biopsy result was like "it could be anything, maybe sarcoma or an anti-inflammatory disease". Good job indeed; - we were given the option to amputate either one or two fingers, with the latter being around $5000. Now, we are not veterinarians or doctors but we tend to follow logic reasoning, so what’s the point of amputating a random number of fingers? If it’s cancer, then it has to go away entirely (or you may decide to do nothing, but not something in between). If it’s not cancer, or if there are metastases, you don’t amputate at all; - in April we decided to take the cat to Italy for better (and also cheaper, flight included) treatment. They just removed the swollen part of the toe, that the biopsy revealed to be in fact sarcoma but confined there, so no further treatment or surgery was necessary. Nine months later our cat is doing great. The cherry on top is that this clinic even asked us to pay another hundreds of dollars for some paperwork to travel to Italy that was not required, since our cat has the European passport (an information that they had on file). Thankfully, we found another veterinary clinic that was honest and competent enough to tell us that a simple health certificate would have done the job. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Edit: it has been a month and I have not heard from Matt or anyone else from the clinic. Pretty much in line with the level of care received last year. Beware of this place.
