This is not a reflection on the Vet, Surgeons, or young people behind the desk, who are great, but this place is understaffed and underwater. I really wish I had forked out a few hundred for a 911 vet that comes to your home before rushing my Mom's cat off to wait in a strange place. She has been scared and at the vet since 10am. I waited 5 hours to see a vet today and my Mom's cat can't even keep food down. A (lovely, helpful) surgeon helped out with everything because they're so understaffed. I walked in at 10:15AM and picked up the cat at 7:30PM. I informed the person on duty that we needed easier meds for my mom to administer and he was dismissive. These people don't get that the people are their client and the pet is the job. God help you if another pet owner comes in who only cares about their emergency. I saw a woman run in today screaming bloody murder despite all the animals waiting their turn, she left her car running in the middle of the street on University in the middle of the day. If you can, fork over a few hundred for an at home visit that accepts 911 calls (love zoomies for my own cat), if your baby need surgery you'll be at the front of the line when you pull up, instead of whatever this was. The care itself was fine, but they need three more vets on at all times and a realistic perspective on what the humans that come in can and can't do. .
My cat had a really big accident that required 6 weeks of follow-up and the entire team at PETS Referral Center have been excellent every step of the way. From the initial emergency visit, to the last-minute appointments, all the way through the routine check-ups — I felt really supported throughout the process and it really showed in the way my cat was able to recover really well. They were transparent about costs, different scenarios, at-home care options and were so patient with me and my millions of questions during this time. I am really grateful for the entire team here for taking care of my cat, it truly made a traumatic experience more manageable all thanks to their help, expertise, patience and care.
We, unfortunately, had to make a visit to PETS last night due to my dog inhaling a foxtail (boo!!). The PETS team was so amazing during a very stressful experience. Shout out to Dr. Jessica for handling a complicated foxtail removal! The whole team was great and the cost was reasonable given that it was after hours emergency care. Hopefully we don’t need to be back anytime soon, but I would highly recommend PETS Referral Center!
I brought my cat in because she swallowed a hair tie, and we were very well taken care of. Veterinarian Dr. William was amazing. They induced vomiting and she threw up the hair tie. We arrived within 20 minutes of her swallowing it. I’m very happy everything worked out well.
Our experience with PETS Referral Center started with the staff member who answered our call. She asked us to send a photo of the issue we were calling about and, after a quick review, requested that we come in. When we arrived, they were expecting us and quickly took our pup’s vitals. Unfortunately, it was an extremely busy day, and we were told there would be a 4–6 hour wait. Rather than leaving us without options, the staff called around to other emergency practices and referred us to one with a shorter wait time to see a doctor. While we ultimately were not seen by a doctor at their practice, I truly appreciated their quick response, clear communication, and efforts to help our pup get medical attention as soon as possible even though it meant going elsewhere.
I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the very kind, attentive staff at PETS. Their genuine care made one of the most difficult decisions slightly less painful. I truly felt cared for and witnessed the care they showed my sweet babygirl. Whenever visiting the emergency room, there’s a higher cost associated with care. That being said their prices seem on par with similar facilities out there. When emergency care is necessary it’s good to know that the care is exceptional.
Yesterday evening I came home to an extremely lethargic pet bunny. Which was a complete 180 from the energetic/binky/content bunny I had left in the morning. I immediately panicked and started googling emergency vets near me. Another clinic I called actually referred me to this clinic as they had exotic pet doctors on staff. Alex picked up the phone and was extremely calming/reassuring and told me to bring in my pet asap, so we did just that. Upon arrival they wasted absolutely no time in bringing him back and checking vitals and working to stabilize him. I was able to fill out my onboarding paperwork with a bit of reassurance as I knew that my pet was already being addressed. I was in an extremely emotional state and the front end staff (especially Alex) were extremely caring and helpful. After about an hour we got to go back to meet with the doctor who was taking care of our boy to understand what was happening and what treatment plan options were available for us. Dr Stephanie Burr was very caring, professional and real about what our bunny needed from us. Then a nurse, Rachel, came in who was absolutely lovely and broke down what every mark on his treatment plan was and the pricing for each step. We were given an extremely clear/percise/accurate estimate for the treatment plan we went with before anything got started that would start costing more money. An emergency visit is pricey (for pet or human) but i feel like the pricing for the treatment we received was extremely fair. They even refunded us $250 from the deposit we paid as he ended up not needing a specific sedative. They could have never disclosed that with me, i would not have questioned them and it shows true integrity. After a long and stressful visit we left feeling confident we could progress with home care and were more than assured that we can always come back. I truly appreciate every step that went into helping my boy and would recommend this clinic 10x over. And though fingers crossed we don’t have to come back, I would have no hesitation in returning.
